What does the term
organic body care really mean? There is no regulation that keeps body
care companies from claiming organic when the products are not organic.
There is a USDA organic symbol that is "USDA Certified Organic" and then you
know the product is truly 95% organic. If a product is made with 70% organic
ingredients, they cannot use the USDA organic seal. As a consumer, there is
no way to tell what ingredients are organic in the product without this
symbol. As of 2005, the labels are not being used on personal body care
products. There are no national guidelines or standards for organic personal
body care products according to the FDA.

Organic personal body care products are some of the fastest growing categories in the cosmetics and organic industry. Organic is becoming mainstream and not thought of as something from the 60's. Major discounters and superstores are including organic sections in the product and meat aisles.
Who is buying organic? People with skin allergies, sensitive skin, chronic medical conditions are buying organic products. People that want a healthier organic lifestyle are buying these products too. Most people want to reduce the amount of chemicals and hormones their bodies are exposed to.
Read all the labels carefully and know what the chemicals mean on a label. You can check out websites of the products in question and read the determining factor about the legitimacy of their organic product.
